Resilience and Strength: My Journey Through Life
At 47 years old, I find myself reflecting on a life that has taken me across the globe—from the tranquil shores of Okinawa to the vibrant landscapes of the Philippines, the colorful streets of Mexico, the serene beauty of Guam, and various other captivating Pacific islands. I have navigated through different states in America, each move representing a chapter in my continuous journey of growth and perseverance.
Life’s journey has not come easy. I was born prematurely and faced a multitude of challenges that many would find insurmountable. I lost a leg and endured numerous surgeries, experiences that would leave most people feeling defeated. However, I refuse to let these obstacles define me. Instead, they have propelled me forward, shaping my spirit and resolve.
Throughout my life, I've encountered discrimination and bullying. These experiences tested my resilience and forced me to confront uncomfortable truths about society. Yet, each time I faced adversity, I responded with determination, refusing to be a victim of my circumstances. I kept moving forward, driven by the belief that strength lies in embracing challenges head-on.
Now, I am happily married after navigating the turbulent waters of a difficult divorce. Finding love again has been a testament to my belief in the power of resilience and the idea that happiness is worth fighting for. My partner has been a source of support and inspiration, encouraging me to embrace each new day with hope and courage.
While I may struggle with deafness and being a below-the-knee amputee, I stand strong and resilient. These facets of my identity do not limit me; instead, they have become part of my story—a tale of a fighter who refuses to be defeated. I face daily challenges with the mindset that obstacles are opportunities for growth. Instead of feeling hindered, I find creative ways to adapt and overcome, proving that disability does not equate to inability.
I believe we all have the strength within us to overcome the obstacles we face. My journey has taught me that no matter how daunting the path may seem, there is always a way forward. By embracing resilience and pursuing the things that make us happy, we can navigate even the toughest of journeys.
At 47, I look ahead with optimism and a fierce determination. I am living proof that despite the struggles, life can be beautiful, filled with love, adventure, and the resilience that resides in each of us. Nothing is stopping me now, and I am excited to see what the future holds.
